Night Music is an improvisational music series held on the third Thursday of every month at The Ship Pub. It begins with an hour-long performance that serves as the anchor for the evening, after which the stage is opened up to anyone with an interest in improvising. Host Craig Squires puts together inspired groups of musicians who jam until their sonic exploration reaches a natural conclusion. Bring your instrument and join in on the fun!
A5tral8og (Tiber Reardon, Chris Harnett, Chris Driedzic, Graham Ellsworth, Chris McGee) is an improvisation group that performs using ImprovDirector, an interactive tool that shapes and directs musical ideas in real time. The audience can interact with the improvisation using their phones/mobile devices for a truly immersive experience!
Apr. 16 // The Ship // 9:30 // $10
Night Music is supported by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, and Recreation.

Ugandan-born musician, educator, and ethnomusicologist Andrew Kagumba leads a dynamic, hands-on workshop exploring the vibrant musical traditions of Uganda and East Africa. Blending performance, storytelling, and participation, the session invites you into an immersive experience of rhythm, movement, and community.
Participants will encounter traditional instruments such as the Endingidi, Amadinda, Adungu, and Akogo, alongside African hand drumming.
This fully interactive session includes learning foundational rhythms, exploring call-and-response, and experiencing how rhythm and time are felt and shared. Drums are provided—no experience needed. Just bring your energy and curiosity.
Be sure to stick around after the workshop for an open jam facilitated by The Nova Collective. Bring your instrument, or play one of ours!
Saturday, May 30th // 2:00pm // Froude Avenue Community Centre (89 Froude Ave.) // Admission by donation
Day Music is supported by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, and Recreation, and by the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation: Improvising Futures.
